Gross Impact | Morality, Survival, and the Art of Quiet Leadership

Image
By Jan Mokoala 28 October 2025 “Enabling you to grow your ultimate leadership net worth .” This reflection comes a few days after my birthday, not because I forgot, but because this year has taught me that true reflection often arrives after the noise settles. Unlike last year, where I spoke about leadership growth and purpose , this year’s reflection isn’t about what I’ve done; it’s about what leadership has done to me . We’ve all heard people in great power share what they believe makes a great leader. Their words often sound perfect, structured, noble, and beautifully rehearsed. But those theories work best in a perfect world. And we don’t live in one. In conversation with Aisha at the Wits Alumni in Dubai The Paradox of Leadership | Between Morality and Survival What my parents taught me and what I had to become to survive are almost the same, except that survival demanded adjustment . Leadership today is a paradox; to keep leading effectively, you must sometimes become thi...

The Power of Humble Leadership: Staying Grounded as You Rise

Image
In the journey of leadership, it can be easy to focus solely on success and upward movement. However, humility and staying connected to your values are what truly sustain long-term success. As the Sepedi proverb goes, "O se bone go akalala ga bo nong, gowa fase ke ga yona" (No matter how high the bird flies, it must eventually come down). This timeless wisdom speaks to the importance of staying grounded as we rise in our careers and influence. Image by  stacy vitallo  from  Pixabay Leaders who remember their roots and maintain humility inspire loyalty, respect, and trust within their teams. Grounded leadership doesn’t lose sight of the team or the purpose behind each achievement. Instead, it builds resilience and fosters a culture where everyone is valued and heard. Just as the bird eventually returns to the ground, even the most successful leaders need to stay connected to their team, values, and community. Leaders who embody this wisdom ensure that success is s...

Leadership, Growth, and Reflection on My Birthday

Image
Today marks not just another year on the calendar, but a time of reflection, growth, and renewed purpose. Birthdays have a way of reminding us where we’ve been and where we’re heading, and as I reflect on this special day, I’m reminded of a powerful quote by John C. Maxwell: “Now more than ever I am aware that a person’s significant birthdays can either mark the passage of time, or they can mark changes they’ve made in their lives to reach their potential and become the person they were created to be.” – John C. Maxwell, Leadership Gold This quote deeply resonates with me, especially as I look back on the past year. It’s been a year of significant transformation — not only in my professional life but also in my personal journey of becoming the person I strive to be. As I celebrate today, I want to share the lessons I’ve learned, the growth I’ve experienced, and how leadership has played a central role in it all. A Year of Growth and Leadership Leadership is a concept that can ofte...

How Visionary Leadership Aligns Teams for Success

Image
A leader’s ability to set and communicate a clear vision is one of the most important aspects of effective leadership. Visionary leaders inspire their teams by aligning every member toward a common goal, creating unity and driving long-term success. In this article, we explore how visionary leadership, as outlined in the leadership manual , can transform your organization. Image by  Daniel Mena  from  Pixabay The manual emphasizes the importance of visionary leadership, stating: "A leader's vision is the compass that aligns every team member's efforts toward a shared destination. Without vision, teams lack direction and purpose." In one example, a CEO who prioritized visionary leadership was able to turn a struggling department into one of the top-performing units within the company. By clearly outlining the company’s future goals and ensuring each team understood its role in achieving them, the leader fostered unity, motivation, and a sense of purpose among employees...

How Employee Empowerment Drives Organizational Growth

In today’s fast-paced business world, leaders are constantly searching for ways to increase productivity and improve team morale. One of the most effective methods for achieving both is through employee empowerment . By delegating responsibilities and trusting your team, you can unlock their full potential and drive organizational growth. Image by  This_is_Engineering  from  Pixabay As detailed in the leadership manual , effective delegation is a key skill for successful leaders. The manual states: "Delegation is not about passing off tasks; it’s about empowering your team to take ownership and make decisions that contribute to the organisation's overall success." In a real-world case, a mid-sized business saw a 25% increase in productivity after shifting its leadership approach. The CEO implemented a new strategy where team members were given more responsibility and decision-making power. This resulted in higher morale, improved efficiency, and more innovative problem-so...

The Law Of Modelling

Image
People do what people see -Leadership is vision- 89% of what we learn is vision. 10% is audio. Then 1% is other senses. When life is taught without being "caught" then it becomes shallow (Set an example, don't tell people "how", involve them and show them "how it's done and while involving them ensure you show them well or don't show them at all". Model authority is the highest form of authority. Moral authority is earned by our walk and not talk. (Our walk alone earns its own respect)  Words are very important!  The longer we spent with people ,the less our words carries weight the more our actions matter.
